The person tries to laugh, but inside they are trying not to cry. Their mind mind has been transported from here to a place of painful memory. A place where they do not want to be, but they are there because life gave them something they didn't ask for.
They are around us. People who are here with us in our social circles, but whose minds carry so much baggage its all they can do to be there in body.
They watch the movie with us, but they are not here. Their trying not to think about what the movie reminds them of from their past.
They are here in church with us and their trying to be joyful and say they are okay, but the pain is so deep.
Everywhere we go we are with people, but are they really here with us in all of their wholeness or are they in another world of desperation and pain?
Oh help me not to bring people to my "here", but to go to them in their place and somehow show them its okay to not be here.

Being available in the present moment is a challenge. Especially when there is pain suppressed beneath the surface. I love the last statement. Not too insist that they should come to us, but we should meet them, connect where they are. Beautiful thought.

I have tears in my eyes just reading your words. Those of us with that hurt, with that baggage and pain struggle to stay "here". It's so hard to not go there, and it's so hard to live life in the now when there are constant reminders of the pain and hurt. And we sometimes get overlooked. Thank you for not overlooking us. Thank you for seeing that our "here" isn't the same as others', and that it can be a very lonely place. Thank you for speaking up for us. Such a sweet heart you have.
So beautiful. Sometimes it's hard to remember that people need us to meet them where they are. Have a blessed day!
There's so much empathy in your post. A good message for everyone. Thank you for that.
